With our seemingly ever-shrinking budgets in this city, we’re always looking for ways to save when it comes to our wardrobe. Stylists say the best way to do so is to invest in high-quality, versatile pieces you can incorporate into multiple outfits and keep for years—but the advice isn’t always easy to follow. Luckily, we have such neighbors as Casie Mace of WhippedStyle in our ’hood to convince us otherwise. A DC fashion designer takes the closet staple for a spin. By Sarah Zlotnick

Welcome to another edition of 7 Days, 7 Ways, Shop Around readers! Today we’re working with the ultimate closet staple: the white button-down shirt. And who better to show off its versatility than a woman who designs them for a living? First featured in “Women of Fashion,” our look at females shaping this city's fashion world, the Shirt founder Rochelle Behrens left her Hill job to launch a stylish collection of work- and play-worthy shirts that, thanks to a patented button technology, miraculously don’t gape at the bust. Here, she styles her signature silk shirt ($182) for Monday through Sunday, providing us with seven polished, city-appropriate outfit ideas with just the right touch of her signature edge.

Diane Von Furstenberg cashmere sweater, J.Crew python skirt, and Zara sandals.

Real Washington women show us how they style their fave piece of clothing for every day of the week. By Sarah Zlotnick

Here at Shop Around, we’re ardent believers in wardrobe double duty. Sure, we love a fresh outfit as much as the next girl, but decidedly un-Kardashian levels of cash flow means we never invest in new clothes unless we can wear them at least three different ways. Curious to see how our fellow Washingtonians extend the life of their wardrobes, we challenged some of the most fashionable local ladies we know to style an outfit for every day of the week using their favorite item of clothing. And thus was born 7 Days, 7 Ways, a new feature we’re really excited about. Up first: Liz Owens, a 27-year-old account manager at Cvent, rocking a pair of BCBG leather leggings.

Monday

This summer sweater is one of my favorites. The weather’s getting colder, but I’m just not willing to part with it yet. The blouse and booties help transition it to fall, and give it enough polish for my casual office environment.
