August Reader Deals: Reasons to Smile

Whether you want to brighten your teeth or smooth away wrinkles, these money-saving offers make it easier to look your best

Grin Ear to Ear

No dental insurance? No problem.

Dr. Charley Varipapa’s Center for Esthetic Dentistry is offering free $500 gift cards to the first 50 readers who mention The Washingtonian when calling for an appointment. Up to $150 can be used toward a comprehensive exam, which includes any necessary x-rays and diagnostic photos, an oral-cancer screening, a cosmetic consultation, and, as needed, diagnostic molds. The exam normally costs $150 or less but could be more, depending on services needed.

The remaining $350 can be used toward any restorative service, including veneers, crowns, and Invisalign braces. This promotion does not cover routine dental hygiene or teeth whitening. Funds should be redeemed by November 30.

Varipapa has more than 20 years’ experience and is a former associate professor at the University of Maryland Dental School.

Want to conceal stained, not-quite-straight teeth? Dr. Youssef Obeid is offering 15 percent off custom porcelain veneers from now until the end of the year. Veneers normally start at $1,600; consultations are free. To get the discount, mention The Washingtonian when making an appointment.

A member of the University of Maryland Dental School faculty, Obeid works out of a space that looks more like a cool apartment—it has won architectural awards for its design, and it features state-of-the-art technology such as reduced-radiation digital x-rays.

Fix Up With a Friend

Here’s an offer to take the sting out of cosmetic injections. In August and September, Arlington dermatologist Michelle Rivera is offering Washingtonian readers $100 off any Botox or facial filler such as Juvéderm, or $100 off a first laser hair-removal treatment. Bring a friend and that second treatment is $50 off.

Botox smooths out wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles that form them. It also has proved effective in aiding people suffering from migraines and excessive sweating. Fillers target aging by filling in creases.

Rivera, one of The Washingtonian’s Top Doctors, is a board-certified dermatologist. To take advantage of this offer, mention The Washingtonian when booking. Rivera normally charges $680 for Botox treatment of the vertical lines between the eyes, called the “elevens,” or the horizontal lines across the forehead; treatment for both sites together is $880. Fillers typically cost $500 per syringe; most treatments require one syringe. Hair removal usually costs $400 per treatment.

Boost of Botox

A shot of Botox is 20 percent off during August at Georgetown Skin. Resident physician Dr. Howard L. Brooks is a graduate of Howard University College of Medicine and a former attending professor at the University of Maryland’s University Health Center.

Mention The Washingtonian when making your appointment. Without the discount, Brooks’s Botox prices average $300 for treating crow’s feet or the “elevens” between the eyes, $600 for a full forehead.

Plastic surgeon Ayman Hakki has opened Luxxery Express, designed as a quick-fix, lunch-hour cosmetic clinic. To celebrate, Luxxery is offering Washingtonian readers 20 percent off all Botox services. Prices normally start at $350 per treatment site.

Have ten minutes for your favorite filler? The 20-percent discount also applies to Juvéderm, Restylane, and Radiesse, which start at $700 per syringe. For those considering cosmetic surgery, Dr. Hakki is also offering free consultations to Washingtonian readers.

To get the discount, visit Luxxery Express any Monday in August or September between 11 and 2. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can make an appointment. This offer applies to new clients only. Hip, Hip Hooray

One of the latest tools in the battle against cellulite is Accent XL, an FDA-aproved radio-frequency treatment said to tighten skin by heating skin cells and stimulating collagen. Calvert Rejuvenations in Herndon is offering half off one Accent XL treatment, normally $400. Most patients require a series of treatments.

Not interested in going under the Accent XL wand? You can instead book a spa service such as a facial or massage for 20 percent off during the month of August. Just mention The Washingtonian to get either discount.
