Where: Anabella Spa.

What to get: Microdermabrasion facial, a one-hour treatment complete with exfoliation, extractions, and a good dose of moisture. Bonus: The aesthetician does a quick—yet effective—neck-and-shoulder rub while the mask sets.

Price: The menu says $125, but new clients get a 10-percent discount.

Why we liked it: Our skin was soft and free of redness immediately afterward. Days later, still not a blemish in sight.

Where: The Day Spa at the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner.

What to get: Arrive early and take advantage of the fitness center or do laps in the heated indoor pool. Then head to the treatment room for a sports massage, a full-body rub for athletes. Post-massage, detoxify in the steam room or hot tub.

Price: A 50-minute sports massage is $125, 80 minutes is $185, and 110 minutes is $250.

Why we liked it: Employees encourage you to use the entire facility and spend the day relaxing. The massage therapist adjusts intensity if you have any delicate areas and will focus on individual needs such as calves, quads, and feet for runners. Soothing music and a heated table help you drift away.

Where: Sesen Spa.

What to get: Sesen Signature, a manicure featuring a lemongrass-and-basil soak, an exfoliating scrub, and a dip in paraffin wax. A hand massage and moisturizing oil complete the experience.

Price: $25. Tips should be paid in cash.

Why we liked it: The paraffin-and-moisture treatment left our thirsty hands soft and supple. Expertly applied polish will make you feel pretty, but it might not last. Our double coat chipped the next day.
