The style: Washingtonians got the memo: Bright colors are in. From chic sheath dresses and skirt-and-top combos to this season’s Nanette Lepore—we were in her boutique, after all—and casual pantsuits, women looked elegant and fresh. Chunky jewels ruled, as did designer shoes—we can’t remember the last time we spotted so many Christian Louboutins. Classic Chanel clutches were the handbag du jour.
The gossip: We had the chance to chat with Kargman, a refreshingly down-to-earth mother of three. She told us that her next book, tentatively titled Arm Candy, chronicles the Demi-and-Ashton-like tale of a self-described cougar on the Upper East Side.
Her advice for young writers? “Write what you know,” says Kargman, who worked her way up the ladder by writing for magazines and interning in her native New York City, where she first gained fame for her 2002 screenplay, Interns. Since then, she’s written Momzillas, the cult favorite about Upper East Side mothers, as well as several young-adult books.
As for her thoughts on Washington, Kargman says, “I always feel like I’m in a movie!”
