Wear + When: Best of Washington Party

Four fun cocktail frocks for tomorrow’s Best Of blowout.

Not sure what to wear to our Best of Washington fête ? The party sold out last Wednesday, but those lucky enough to snag tickets should know the dress code is anything but stiff. This is a summer celebration, people—have fun with it! Bust out the brightly colored sundress, throw on those statement heels. Here are four looks we’d love to see milling through the crowd.

Artistic Leanings (top left)
Heather grey can be surprisingly chic when purposefully accessorized. We chose avant-garde accessories—like a sculptural ring and puff-fabric necklace—and heavy-duty wedges for a look that screams “creative” without overdoing it.

French Connection Dancin Around dress, $228; Anntian silk puff necklace, $119; Jeffrey Campbell Tackle leather wedge, $138; Bijules mini curved bar ring, $208.

Updated Washington (top right)
It doesn’t get more DC than Tory Burch and peep-toe pumps. If your party uniform leans toward preppy classics, shake things up with an unexpected color palette. Here, turquoise and canary yellow feel fresh, modern, and slightly punk-rock.

Tory Burch Harriet shift, $425; Enzo Angiolini Maylie pump, $59.95; Rebecca Minkoff MAC leather clutch, $375.

Pattern Play (bottom left)
For a smartly styled take on summer casual, reign in a graphic print with hardware-heavy heels and a belt. A textured bag—we like metallic leather—adds just a hint of tough-girl glitz.

Topshop diagonal stripe dress, $90; Michael Kors Runway buckled gladiator sandal, $1295; Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie day bag, $595; Linea Pelle braided waist belt, $187.

Tandoori Nights (bottom right)
Girly girls can never go wrong with pink and gold. For a pretty look that doesn’t overwhelm, swap out statement earrings for a delicate charm necklace, and pair your breezy sundress with a chunky cocktail ring—it’ll look great against the glass of Champagne you’ll be holding all night.

Rebecca Taylor Waterfall ruffle dress, $295; Moon & Lola Taj Mahal necklace, $86; Avalaya cocktail ring, $11.40; Jean-Michel Cazabat Kalena sandal, $159.
