Having a hard time finding an open treadmill or bike at your gym? You might try heading to Vida Fitness’s newest location in Mount Vernon. After a two-month, $500,000 renovation, Vida Fitness’s fifth branch opens today at 12:30 PM to reveal a 25,000-square-foot space.
Located in the far corner of the City Vista residential complex along with restaurants like Busboys and Poets, Mandu, and Taylor Gourmet, this Vida Fitness location welcomes gym-goers upon walk-in with a 35-foot vestibule and a two-flight staircase. Walk up the stairs, and you’ll find one floor dedicated to cardio and strength equipment, three fitness studios, a spa, a juice and snack bar, and locker rooms.
The vast cardio space features equipment by Life Fitness, Hammer Strength, Cybex, Precor, StairMaster, Keiser, and Hoist, all with personal TVs. And just like other Vida Fitness locations, pop and club music blares through the surround-sound audio system throughout the day.
The cycling studio, whose walls are painted bright red, features the most up-to-date cycling bikes by Keiser. Another fitness studio is equipped for TRX Suspension Trainers, while the third and smallest will provide a quiet haven for yoga and Pilates classes.
The men’s and women’s locker rooms feature numerous lockers and eight showers each with rainfall shower heads. Unlike the other locations, which have coed, European-style saunas, each locker room gets its own sauna and steam room. Vida Fitness’s Aura Spa will sit between the locker rooms and is scheduled to open in 2013.
Owner David von Storch, who just opened a 51,000-square-foot U Street location last summer, has plans to open three more Vida Fitness locations in Washington by 2015.
Vida Fitness (445 K St., NW; 202-289-8432) is now accepting memberships at a special grand opening rate of $84 a month, with reduced initiation fees depending on the membership package.
