Fans of Fuel Pilates’ Xtend Barre classes, rejoice! Owner Kelly Griffith is opening a separate studio for the Pilates-and-dance-inspired workout in Mount Vernon, and its grand opening this weekend includes free classes.
Xtend Barre DC joins hundreds of other franchises across the country that have hopped onto the barre-workout bandwagon. But the workout is unlike your typical barre class, says Griffith, a trained barre and Pilates instructor.
“I really believe in the method,” she says. “One of the things that makes it different is that it’s Pilates and dance fused together. It’s high energy and high intensity, and gets you into the fat-burning zone.” Those who are familiar with Fuel Pilates are likely already aware of Xtend Barre, since the class has been offered and Griffith’s Georgetown Pilates studio since September 2010. The class’s popularity convinced her to open a second studio dedicated solely to the workout in a more Metro-accessible location.
The 1,000-square-foot studio is in the historic Blagden Alley district. While the main studio is dedicated to Xtend Barre classes, Griffith says that starting in February, patrons can look for a small group exercise class called Xtend Barre Stick in another studio room. The class will be limited to four or six students, so instructors can deliver more personalized instruction.
Xtend Barre DC’s grand opening is this weekend, with free classes offered Saturday and Sunday. If you come by and the class is already filled, you can receive an online code to take a free class another time.
Drop-in classes are $20; new students can take two classes for $30.
