Mother’s Day brunch: good. The extra calories that come with it: not so good. The solution? Fit-friendly Mother’s Day alternatives that’ll let you enjoy a guilt-free brunch after. Hit up your local barre studio together, run a race, or channel your inner oms as one.

Run the Mother’s Day 4-Miler

Go for a Mother’s Day Bike Ride

WABA, Black Women Bike DC, and Bike Arlington will host a Mother’s Day bike ride to and picnic at Hains Point on May 12 from 12 to 3:30 PM. Dress up in your Sunday best—that includes you, guys. Men are encouraged to show their support for mom by wearing their favorite sun dress.

Get Fit for Free

Level, the upscale fitness club in Cabin John, Maryland, will host its first-ever Fit Fair on Saturday, May 11, from 8 to 3. Adult classes include aerial yoga, Pilates, cycling, and cardio hip-hop, and kids can play all day in the moon bounce. Free.

Free Yoga at Lululemon

Lululemon hosts a free community yoga class at its Bethesda location on Sunday from 10 to 11 AM. Core Power Yoga also hosts a complimentary class at the Georgetown location.

Hit the Barre

Snag two spots at the barre at Biker Barre on Sunday with Mom. Does she want to sweat? Opt for a cycling sesh instead. If it’s your mom’s first time at the Eastern Market studio, her second class is on the house.

Enjoy the Outdoors

If your mom is a runner or a hiker, why not hit the trails for a peaceful jaunt through the woods? Keep it local at Rock Creek Park or head to Shenandoah National Park for the day. Bonus points if you pack a picnic.

Mom-and-Daughter Yoga Workshop

On Saturday, May 11, from 5 to 7, Tranquil Space Arlington’s Jennifer Triassi will lead you and Mom through a 90-minute slow flow practice that helps release tension and stress. The last 30 minutes will include restorative yoga. $35.

Make Brunch at Home

If you missed out on getting a brunch reservation in time, make it up to Mom by cooking for her instead. Try our Central American-inspired brunch recipe at just 650 calories per serving. Salsa? Check. Fruit? Check. Mom’s approval? Check.
