Looking for another book to heat up your July reading list? Try Fire in the Belly: The Life and Times of David Wojnarowicz, Cynthia Carr’s biography of the late artist whose video of ants crawling over a crucifix made headlines when the National Portrait Gallery removed it from a 2010 exhibit, “Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture,” in the wake of protests from the Catholic League. Carr, a former arts reporter for the Village Voice, knew Wojnarowicz intimately, so this one sheds new light on his artistic intentions and his life.
