A new permanent exhibition, “America by Air,” opens November 17. Chronicling the history of passenger air travel, which began 11 years after the Wright Brothers’ first flights in 1903, it includes a 1914 Curtiss JN-4 mail carrier, a DC-3, a DC-7, and the nose of a Boeing 747 jumbo jet. There’s material on Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 transatlantic flight, old stewardess uniforms, and airplane steering controls a would-be pilot can handle.
