In the Arctic, photographer Howard Ruby captured the bond between a mother polar bear and her cub. It’s part of the “Nature’s Best” exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History.

The museum annually exhibits prizewinning photographs of animals from all over the world. This year’s “Nature’s Best,” selected by the photography magazine of the same name, includes a red fox with its head in the snow at Yellowstone, zebras on the run in Botswana, and a Kodiak bear at the Buffalo zoo with a bee on its nose.
