Speaker: Dr. Fred M. Donner, professor of Near Eastern history, University of Chicago Muslim tradition has a well-developed narrative about Islam’s origins, but work done over the last century—especially the past 35 years—has raised fundamental questions. This talk summarizes revisionist arguments about how Islam began and considers how these views may affect our understanding of the religion.
