Artist Showcase Opening. ArtSee and Tonic will host an opening reception for Italian Artist artist, Daniela Mastrangelo. Her work is on display at Tonic until March 11th. The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, February 26th from 6-8pm!. Traveling around the world is for us humans, a symbolic journey, it is always in the attempt in discovering our own souls and this is the feeling Mastrangelo experienced in a recent trip to India.
Mastrangelo believes that a soul is reflected in the eyes of the people, trapped between the masks worn in the everyday life and the different faces of reality. These are fragments of lives that speak of the search of spirituality and purity, in an everyday life so different from the occidental one but so tightly related to the reflection of our living. This photography project was born from a study of the physiognomy as communication vehicle, where the facial expression becomes a life story told by a glance. The photographic works printed in wax play on a duality: their static nature and the temporal image of photography is associated to the portrait preconception. The dynamism springing from the fluid nature of the wax, sensitive to the exterior climate and to the sensorial contact, similar to the critical aspect of the vision, where all can be mutated and subjectively interpreted.
The portraits are mosaic structures, in which different shapes of pieces composed as in a puzzle, form an identity. The identity of the human body, and its soul and that it inspires the view reflection into themselves.
