Event Details: Only Make Believe-DC invites you to come out and celebrate our expansion into the Hematology Oncology Unit at Children's National Medical Center. Join us for this celebratory dinner featuring the talented Nova Y. Payton, 2012 Helen Hayes Award winner for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Since OMB-DC launched in March 2012, we have successfully served over 500 children in three facilities-- Children's National Medical Center, Psychiatric Institute of Washington and The Children's Inn at NIH. 2013 is looking bright for OMB-DC, and we look forward to sparking the imaginations of so many more children in the Washington, DC metro region. -------- Only Make Believe is a non-profit organization that creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals and care facilities. Only Make Believe is dedicated to the principle that freeing a child's creative spirit is a valuable part of the healing process. We believe in make believe-- the healing power of laughter-- and our primary goal is to make each and every child feel special. Collaboration between actor and child is therefore the key to Only Make Believe's success. Each child takes an active part in creating a world of fantasy and fun that transcends the boundaries of the hospital walls, and as a result they are able to gain a new sense of self-esteem and joy. Combining the magic of theatre with the power of a child's imagination enables them for the first time to see a world of possibilities rather than disabilities.
