In “Strange Bodies: Figurative Works From the Hirshhorn Collection,” you’ll see artists such as Francis Bacon, Alberto Giacometti, and René Magritte who distort the human form to make a point—from the rubbery flesh of Ron Mueck’s sculpture “Untitled (Big Man)” to John Currin’s “The Pink Tree,” showing female nudes with perfect skin reminiscent of Renaissance painting. Also of interest are paintings and drawings satirizing the military and the bourgeoisie by German expressionist George Grosz; they belong to the Hirshhorn but aren’t displayed often. Closes in early 2010.
