The East Building’s tower gallery, which features art since 1970, has a small exhibit of paintings and drawings by Philip Guston as well as a video about him. While some of Guston’s work is harsh—he often dwells on the horrors of his childhood—other paintings have a comic touch. He was influenced by expressionism, high-school buddy Jackson Pollock, and comic-book artist Robert Crumb. The Matisse cutouts that were in the tower have moved to the concourse.
