Two years ago, the National Museum of African Art was bequeathed a collection that, because of its size and the variety of art in it, is world renowned. It also provided the animators at Disney with some of the inspiration for the movie version of The Lion King. There have been preview exhibits of a few pieces from the collection, but beginning February 15, the museum will devote more space to “African Vision: The Walt Disney–Tishman African Art Collection.” Highlights include carved ivory, wooden sculptures, and a wall of masks from many African regions. The exhibit runs through fall 2008 at the National Museum of African Art.
