The Maryland Renaissance Festival returns to Crownsville, 45 minutes east of DC. The festival takes place in a recreated 16th-century English village and features costumed villagers operating pubs, stages, food booths, and more than 130 craft shops. You can get into character, too: There’s a place where adults and children can rent costumes. Adding to the daily entertainment—strolling musicians, jugglers, mimes—are weekend themes such as Pirate Adventure (September 26 and 27) and Shakespeare (October 10 and 11).
