This exhibit presents more than 120 objects made by Japanese-Americans while interned in camps during World War II. Gaman—which translates as “enduring what seems unbearable with dignity and grace”—embodies the spirit that moved internees to create, from found scraps, everything from teapots to musical instruments. Included is work by artists Isamu Noguchi, Ruth Asawa, Henry Sugimoto, and more.
