Somewhat overshadowed by “Modernism: Designing a New World 1914-1939" but also worthwhile is Olga Hirshhorn Collects a selection by curator Jonathan Binstock from the hundreds of gifts the widow of the founder of the Hirshhorn Museum has made to the Corcoran.

Among Binstock’s choices are works by Willem de Kooning and Alexander Calder, both friends of Mrs. Hirshhorn’s, and by Bob Thompson. “She was way ahead of the curve on this African-American Expressionist, having bought three of his paintings back in the ’60s,” says Binstock.

Among the “curious and rare things” on view is a screen print made by Ed Ruscha after his all-chocolate installation at the 1970 Venice Biennale. That exhibit was short-lived because people touched the prints and licked their fingers.
