Official Website

On the weekend of May 4, 100 teams of film enthusiasts will see who can make the best movie in 48 hours. Conceived in 2001 by DC filmmakers Mark Ruppert and Liz Langston, the 48 Hour Film Project will visit more than 50 cities this year.

At the outset, each team draws a genre—such as musical or mock umentary—and is assigned a prop, character, and line of dialogue to incorporate into a four- to seven-minute movie. Judges choose one film from each city to compete for the grand prize.

Registration—open to novices and experts—is $148 a team. AFI Silver (301-495-6700; afi.com/silver) will screen all entries from May 8 to 11 and a small best-of selection May 24.
