Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

Editor's Pick: Historic

The Mayflower is for those looking for a bit of extravagance, whether a European tourist or American businessman. The grandiose lobby has been restored to its 1920s look. The hotel, which opened in 1925, has witnessed much history; it has hosted presidential inaugural balls from Calvin Coolidge to Ronald Reagan. The hotel also has a long-running afternoon tea, which takes place from 3 to 5 pm in the hotel restaurant, Cafe Promenade.

Guests and locals alike can dine in either the Lobby Court or the more extravagant dining room, Cafe Promenade, with its weekend harpist.

Guests can also check out the hotel’s old-school style bar, Towne and Country. With its sophisticated oak and leather decor, a good Manhattan, and its own entrance off of Connecticut , the space is great for postwork drinks. Towne and Country also has its 33-year veteran bartender, Sam, a selection of 101 martinis, and guilty-pleasure chicken fingers.
