College students and recent graduates: We're looking for bright people with good research, reporting, and writing skills who don't require a lot of hand-holding. In exchange, we offer an experience that's low on grunt work and high on opportunity. Duties include factchecking, research, and some writing. Editors, writers, and heads of the advertising, promotion, production, circulation, art, and photography departments meet with the editorial assistants once or twice a week to discuss their own roles at the magazine and careers in journalism. Graduates of our program have gone on to publications such as Vanity Fair, People, Entertainment Weekly, National Geographic, Allure, Martha Stewart Everyday Food, and USA Today (as well as landed full-time jobs at Washingtonian).
The positions are 40 hours a week for four months in the fall, five months in the spring, and three months in the summer. The pay is $8.25 per hour.

Print Advertising
College students and recent graduates: We are looking for enthusiastic applicants with good people skills and an interest in advertising. We offer an opportunity to immerse yourself in everything to do with magazine advertising. You will work directly with outside and inside sales representatives, assisting them with cold calling, in-depth research projects, selling and creating ads, and assisting the Marketing Department with miscellaneous duties during events. Interns also serve as real estate department sales support.
Positions are available three times a year to both undergraduates and recent graduates. Undergraduates are eligible for academic credit. Interns receive honorarium to cover expenses.
Newspaper/magazine or marketing/sales experience is preferred but not required.
Students must have proof that they are receiving class credit from their college or university. The positions are 40 hours a week, but a more flexible schedule can be arranged.

Design
College students and recent graduates: We are looking for enthusiastic, talented and creative designers to assist with the monthly production of the magazine. The candidate must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Duties will include assisting the art department with designing layouts for FOB and BOB sections, creating graphics for washingtonian.com, and attending art/photo meetings to discuss planning for each month's issue. Previous experience at a magazine or knowledge of K4 is a plus, but not required. There will also be opportunities to contribute towards our ancillary publications Bride & Groom and Welcome Guide.
Students must have proof that they are receiving class credit from their college or university. The positions are 40 hours a week, but a more flexible schedule can be arranged.
