Where & When Weekly

By Catherine Andrews

Fort Reno kicks off its series of concerts, plus a free Wyclef concert and the start of summer celebrations.

Monday, June 18: The annual outdoor rock series at DC’s Fort Reno Park kicks off this evening with the groups Mass Movement of the Moth, Deleted Scenes, and the Boom Orangutangs. Shows take place in the field at 3950 Chesapeake Street, NW; the closest Metro stop is Tenleytown/American Univeristy. Shows start around 7:15; they’re a real Washington music tradition, so even if you can’t make it tonight, check out the schedule and catch a show in the next couple of months.

Tuesday, June 19: It’s a free concert with a Caribbean flair at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Jamaica’s The Ska-talites, and Richmond-based jazz-funk band Plunky & Oneness perform in a concert that starts at 5:30 pm.

Wednesday, June 20: Head over to the rooftop on the Eighteenth Street Lounge (1212 18th Street, NW) for some reggae sounds this evening. Each Wednesday the bar presents Rockas International, a “reggae on the rooftop” session that gets started around 7 pm.

If you’re more in the mood for country tunes, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band are on stage at Wolf Trap. Lovett’s got one of the best voices in country, and there’s no better spot to catch him than on the Wolf Trap lawn. k.d. lang opens. 7:30 pm; tickets are $30 (lawn) and $48 (inside).

Thursday, June 21: La Tasca (722 7th St., NW, near Gallery Place) is celebrating the first official day of summer with such specials as draft beer, sangria, and house wine for $3, $5 margaritas, and $2.50 select tapas.
