He's Got Style: Clinton Portis
By
Mary Clare Glover
10 men who like fine clothing and know what looks good on them talk about where they shop, labels they love, fashion tips, and what they splurge on—including one man’s 3,000 ties.
Clinton Portis, 26 Redskins running back
How would you describe your style?
I try to stay different from everybody else—I put my own little swag onto whatever I wear. When I put it on, if it feels good, I’m going to go with it.
Who are some favorite designers?
If I don’t have time to get a suit custom-made, I usually go with Canali. I also like Crooks & Castles and 575 Denim.
Do you have a fashion inspiration?
Probably my mom, but I never wanted to dress like somebody else. If I see somebody else with something on, I stay away from it.
What are your favorite places to shop in Washington?
Neiman Marcus in Tysons Galleria and Eric Finn Custom Clothiers in DC.
Is there a type of item you splurge on?
I don’t focus on just one thing. I’ve got so many clothes, it’s ridiculous. My closet is full of tags. I’ve got closets full of everything from dress shoes to slide-ons to tennis shoes to T-shirts to jeans to hats to dress shirts.
