Products for Shinier, Healthier Hair

By Ann Limpert

Two ways to get shinier, healthier hair

This article is from 2006's Cool Spa Treatments package. The information may be out-of-date, so please call locations listed for new information.

Stressed-out hair gets some R&R with the 25-minute Rescue Scalp and Hair Treatment at Nusta Spa (1129 20th St., NW; 202-530-5700; nustaspa.com). After an esthetician streaks your hair with fragrant camellia oil, you’re treated to a quick neck-and-shoulder rub. Wait a few hours—up to a day—to wash out the oil, and your locks emerge shiny and renewed. They’ll smell great, too. Cost: $50.

The new Saint Germain by Molecule salon (439 Seventh St., NW; 202-824-0444; saintgermainsalon.com) takes a more targeted approach. It’s the third salon in the country to include a Kérastase Institute, where a specialist assesses your hair: Is it weak? Lacking bounce? Too coarse? You’re prescribed a Kerastase hair masque, which is applied with a scalp massage, and given recommendations for a Kerastase shampoo, conditioner, and styling product. I left with strong, shiny layers. Cost: $30 to $50 plus products. A blow-dry is $50 extra.
