Lunch & Dinner Feasts

Buss Up Shut—it sounds like the name of an alt-rock band. In fact, it derives from the West Indian technique of slashing with paddles or spatulas at a freshly made roti. The finished product resembles a “busted-up shirt.”

Buss Up Shut is the house specialty at this Columbia Heights walkup, where the hot, torn flatbread can be topped with several curries—we’re partial to the goat ($10) and chicken ($6). Tear off pieces of roti to scoop up the spicy stew. It will bring a sweat to your brow and a smile to your face—and leave you sated long before you’ve finished eating.
