The Food: The roster of creative American fare includes Buffalo-style shrimp with hot sauce and blue cheese, wasabi-crusted meatloaf,  and an open-faced portabello-and-tofu burrito. Entrees like boneless fried chicken, roasted vegetable linguine, and filet mignon all come  with mixed greens and jicama salad with honey vinaigrette, while the hefty burger arrives with hand-cut fries. At lunch, there are grilled cheeses, shrimp po’ boys, and grilled salmon club sandwiches.

The Scene: Popular with residents of Logan Circle, the lantern-lit, rustic Logan Tavern celebrates its namesake neighborhood with large black and white photos of area scenes. Starting at happy hour, tables and bar stools are usually crowded. When there’s a wait, it’s usually fastest to grab one of the ten chairs at the planked communal table up front.

What’s Nearby: Logan Tavern is across from Whole Foods market, next to Halo nightclub, and around the corner from the Studio Theatre. Dupont Circle, with shopping and nightlife, is about four blocks west. The restaurant shares the block with a sister spot, Merkado.

Insider Tips: Half-price appetizers and drink specials are available at the bar Monday through Friday between 3 and 6:30 PM. A daily lunch special includes a soft drink, any sandwich or salad, and any starter or dessert for $16.
