For Southern comfort, try this tiny family-run place in DC’s Petworth, with its handful of red vinyl booths and long bar where regulars make themselves at home. Slow service is forgivable once you dig in to heaping portions of crunchy chicken or golden-brown fried trout. Dinners come with two sides—the smoky collard greens, pasta shells oozing with cheese, and pickle-spiked potato salad are the winners.
