Red paper lanterns and a tinkling soundtrack are about all the frills at this tiny Dupont Circle mainstay. You won’t find anything too flashy on the menu, either, just reliably fresh, affordable nigiri and maki along with noodles, tempura, and cold Kirin beer. The service is quick but precise: Order a spicy tuna roll and you’ll be asked if you want it medium or extra hot.
