For less-meat-centric Aegean fare, the Greek Spot (2017 11th St., NW; 202-265-3118) offers nicely done vegetarian dishes. The tiropita appetizer ($4.95)—a huge, golden rectangle of phyllo filled with Greek cheeses—is sort of like a rich spanakopita without the spinach. The spanakopita appetizer ($5.75), shot through with mint, is also worthwhile; you can order it as a platter with orzo and green beans ($8.95). The owner’s own vegetarian diet inspired the surprisingly successful meatless gyro ($5.95) with Morningstar Farms “steak” strips in place of lamb—even meat lovers will be fooled.
