Former Colorado Kitchen chef/owner Gillian Clark—and her terrific fried chicken—are back at the new General Store.

Former Colorado Kitchen chef/owner Gillian Clark—and her terrific fried chicken—are back at the new General Store.

Ever since her tiny Colorado Kitchen closed, we’ve missed Gillian Clark’s comfort cooking. Good news: She and her terrific fried chicken are back in a bigger spot, the newly opened the General Store. The homey, cheerily painted place offers a streamlined menu that relies some on the fryer—that brittle-skinned chicken and a po’ boy stuffed with crispy shrimp—but also excels at sides. A bacony richness wafts from the collard greens, cornbread is sweet and moist, and mac and cheese has a nice bread-crumb crunch. As at Colorado Kitchen, Clark is doing the cooking, and she’ll now happily provide one service her old restaurant didn’t: takeout.

In this time when everyone is watch every penny, we "used" our "eat out" budget on the General More ...

The General Store is hard to find, but well worth the search. Fried chicken, mac-n.cheese (the yummerest), collard greens, chicken salad sandwich, the GS has it all. If you're looking for food that has no flavor or isn't well prepared, this isn't More ...
