A killer rooftop deck and colorful drag brunch keep Perrys going strong

The food: A spare, Modern American menu is filled with eclectic combinations: Yellow-tomato gazpacho is paired with rice crackers, venison carpaccio gets a dash of chive oil, and a slab of butterfish is set off by bok choy and a risotto cake. There’s also a full sushi bar, where you can get familiar selections such as fatty tuna, salmon roe, and scallops, plus more unusual finds such as seared Japanese red snapper, white eel, quail egg, and fatty yellowtail.

The scene: Heavy drapes surrounding large windows, soothing shades of beige, and fresh flowers give this second-floor restaurant a cozy, relaxed feel. Indoors, you’ll find a long bar, dining room and lounge, and sushi counter. The roof deck twinkles with miniature lights and sports a large wraparound bar and tables. But the biggest draws are the killer views of Adams Morgan. The rooftop opens at 5:30 PM when it’s warm, and it’s the best spot in the place for happy hour, dinner, and late-night cocktails. On Sundays, there’s a popular drag brunch.

What’s nearby: A black canopy marks Perrys' entrance near the corner of Biltmore Street and Columbia Road., and it shares the block with Cashion’s Eat Place. Adams Morgan’s bar- and club-filled main drag, 18th Street, is a block away.

Insider tips: During happy hour, daily from 5:30 to 7:30, you can get three small plates and two drinks for $25. The menu is limited, but options include flounder ceviche, chicken quesadillas, and a burger.
