From blocks away you can hear Bob Marley blaring on the outdoor speakers at this new Jamaican joint. Renovation of the previous carryout is still under way, but you can find such tasty offerings as a vegetable patty ($1.85) tucked into sweet coco bread ($1.50) and escovitch-style snapper ($11.50), a whole fish marinated in blazing-hot vinegary peppers and onions.

Good, too, is the traditional pairing of ackee—a sweet Jamaican fruit that cooks up looking like pale scrambled eggs—with codfish ($9.50 small, $11 large). Don’t expect to grab a quick bite: Only one server works the counter, and when we visited she was on island time. In coming weeks, look for a juice bar and live-music nights.

Open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner.
