Divine Design

By Mary Clare Glover

Every spring, a jury of architects comes to town to pick winners of the Washingtonian Residential Design Awards. This year's competition, open to registered architects of area houses and second homes owned by Washingtonians, drew more than 120 entries.

The jury—Jane Frederick, head of her own firm in Beaufort, South Carolina; Harry Kendall, a partner at BKSK Architects in New York City; and Dan Wheeler, a principal at Wheeler Kearns Architects in Chicago—found it hard to narrow the field. "There must be a lot of happy clients out there," Kendall said. "The architect community here has clearly been pushing each other."
