Cinephiles have plenty of options this week: The second annual Washington Jewish Film Festival continues through May 2 at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington. Tonight’s film is Brothers, the story of two students who are prosecuted by the State of Israel for refusing military service. 7:30; tickets are $10. At the Arlington Cinema ’N’ Drafthouse, Valentine’s Day (7:20) and When in Rome (9:50) are showing as part of the venue’s weekly $1 Movie Night series. If there ever was a right time to watch those guilty pleasures . . . Juliet of the Spirits, about a woman who undergoes an emotional crisis after discovering her husband’s infidelity, screens at the AFI Silver Theatre at 9:10 as part of the Federico Fellini retrospective. Tuesday: Fiddler on the Roof
“The entire company bubbles with an energy that’s most palpable in lively group numbers such as the wedding reception or Tevye’s dream sequence,” raves our critic of the National Theatre’s production of Fiddler on the Roof. The musical, which stars Harvey Fierstein in the role of Tevye, runs through the weekend. Tonight’s show is at 7:30; tickets can be purchased here.
Wednesday: Monologues
V-Day DC is putting on a production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues at the Rock & Roll Hotel in an effort to raise money for local organizations working to stop violence against women and girls. Tickets ($20) can be purchased here. Doors open at 7:30, and the show starts at 8.
Thursday: Tibetan Twilight
That’s the theme for this month’s Asia After Hours party at the Freer GallerySackler Gallery. The event includes access to the In the Realm of Buddha exhibit—which features a Tibetan Buddhist shrine with sculptures, textile banners, and painted furniture. Also, contemporary artist Gonkar Gyatso will assemble a collage with the help of attendees, and DJ Chris Linux will spin tracks. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door.
