Where & When: What to Do Tonight

Bid for dates, support Gulf Coast fishermen, and indulge in barbecue

Interested in dating the “Sexy Librarian” or a “Dr. RealGood?” Come bid on Washington’s sexiest bachelors and bachelorettes at K Street Lounge. All money raised goes to the construction of an environmentally sustainable school in Kenya. Jitegemee, the nonprofit behind the project, is dedicated to providing street children in Kenya with a formal and vocational education. Click here to purchase tickets ($20). 6:30 to 10.

This week marks the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Citizen Effect’s CitizenGulf project, which supports educational opportunities for the children of Gulf Coast fishermen, is hosting a benefit at Busboys and Poets, featuring extended happy-hour drink specials. All ticket sales go to Gulf families for school supplies and to support after-school activities. Click here to purchase tickets ($10 to $500). 6:30 to 9.

Summer’s winding down, but there’s still time for some beer and barbecue. Join Chef Teddy Folkman as he dishes out low-country barbecue at Capitol Lounge. Dishes include hickory-smoked brisket, spicy Carolina-style pork, and kielbasa with sauerkraut. Enjoy a variety of brews from Great Lakes Brewing Company with your meal. Click here for tickets ($35). 6 PM.

Listen to the sounds of the tropics intertwined with zany but charming rock at the Strathmore Outdoor Summer Uke Fest. Concert guests include the Sweater Set, Victoria Vox, the Hula Honeys, the Riders, and Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer. Bring a uke or buy one there for a 6 PM audience strum-along. At 5:30, there’s a street festival with acrobats, jugglers, and clowns. Food including barbecue ribs, pulled pork, and veggie burgers are available for purchase. Free. 7 PM.
