Make sure the suit fits you: The jacket should lie flat on your back, without any pulling or buckling. You shouldn’t be swimming in it, either. Check that the shoulder seam doesn’t go below the shoulder line. The pants should fit at the hip. You should be able to tuck in your shirt and still have a finger’s width of space. Avoid “diaper butt,” a.k.a. extra fabric that you only think makes pants more comfortable. Slim cuts fit guys of all sizes and look especially great in pictures.
Embrace color: Weddings are fun—why limit yourself to colors you can wear to the office any day of the week? One group paired red chinos with blue blazers for a Nantucket fete; another chose super-lightweight chambray trousers for Mexico beach nuptials. You’ll definitely be able to use them after the big day, starting with your honeymoon.
Accessorize: Bow ties can instantly add some personality to a traditional suit. Navy has been especially popular lately and works well with different patterns. Suspenders are growing in popularity, but keep in mind that they may look funny if your pants have belt loops.
Don’t sweat it: Your wedding is a big event—and that anticipation can come with sweaty armpits. Remember: Everyone gets nervous, but you’ve already done the hardest part. Enjoy the wedding day; you’ll want to remember your impromptu breakdancing routine, not your clammy hands paranoia. Fortunately, the cotton jacket comes with a sweat-resistant lining (phew!).
