45 Bikes and Hikes: Anacostia Tributary Trail System

Prince George’s County Tributary Views, Anacostia Tributary Trail System

Distance: 10- or 13-mile round-trip on suggested route.

The Anacostia Tributary Trail System spans 24 miles and follows
Sligo Creek, Paint Branch, and the Northeast and Northwest branches of the Anacostia River. The area along Sligo Creek is the busiest, with multiple bridges crossing the water. Avoid the crowds: Start at Bladensburg Waterfront Park for an easy five-mile ride north along the Northeast Branch Trail, passing College Park Airport before arriving at beautiful manmade Lake Artemesia. Sit on a waterside bench to rest, or, if you want more mileage, loop around the lake (about three miles) before doubling back. For more information, see the Prince George’s County parks website.
