Preppy Navy and White Wedding at Georgetown’s Sequoia

Emily Warne and Frank Mazzarelli snapped portraits all over Georgetown following their October 4, 2014 ceremony.

There’s something about a preppy style of wedding that fits right in with Georgetown’s historic streets and sunny waterfront. Emily Warne and Frank Mazzarelli took advantage of that, using spots all over Georgetown for their ceremony, portraits, and reception, all captured in these shots by Sarah Bradshaw Photography.

When Frank spotted Emily across the lobby of the restaurant, where he was waiting for a table with a group of friends, he knew he needed to find an excuse to talk to her. After sidling up to her multiple times and inviting her to join him and his friends, he finally mustered up the courage to ask for what he really wanted: a date. She agreed, and they spent an evening at a Nationals game—though they were both so immersed in their conversation that neither remembers who the opposing team was.

For the proposal, Frank planned to pop the question while they were at a vineyard in Sonoma. Though it sounded romantic, the swarms—first of tourists, then of bees—threw off his plans. Undeterred, he asked his dream girl to be his wife while they were together in San Francisco.

A year and a half of planning later, they wed in a church ceremony that was followed by a stroll through Georgetown to their reception venue, Sequoia. They paused for portraits as they went, taking a memorable walk that would be a highlight of the day for both the bride and groom.

For their reception at Sequoia, they matched the blue decor with blue chairs, preppy striped place cards, and blue-topped Georgetown cupcakes as favors. After their thoroughly Washington wedding, they left for a thoroughly European honeymoon, which would take them to Nice, Monaco, Cinque Terre, and Paris.
