Registration for the popular Bay Bridge Run opens at noon today. The 10k, which offers amazing views of the Chesapeake Bay, is scheduled for November 12. It’s the only day of the year that the eastbound span is open to those on foot.

Registration is $80 until June 30, and rises after that. For an additional $25, participants can have their race packet, with a bib, race shirt, and additional purchases, mailed to them before the race, to save them a trip to pick them up.

The race welcomes both runners and walkers, as long as you can finish with an average 19 minutes per mile to meet the two-hour limit. An estimated 16,000 people participated last year, according to Chesapeake Bay Magazine. Runners and walkers will be split into waves of about 2,000 each, since the width of the eastbound bridge is only 26 feet. Past winners and those who can run with a pace of less than 13 minutes per mile can join waves A, B, and C. Everybody else will join waves D-H.

More than four miles of the race runs along the famous William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge, named one of the scariest bridges in the world by Travel and Leisure in 2022. The bridge reaches 186 feet above sea level at its highest point, but the incline isn’t aggressive. During the race, participants should be able to see sailboats and other ships along the river.
