Biography
Dr. Janese Laster is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Obesity medicine, and Nutrition. She completed Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship training at Georgetown University Hospital, then was accepted into the highly competitive Nestle Clinical Nutrition fellowship program, and finished her training with an advanced endoscopic bariatric fellowship in Madrid, Spain.
While working as a general gastroenterologist, Dr. Laster realized there was a lack of emphasis on nutrition, which is the crux of overall gastroenterology care. She noticed that patients continued to have persistent symptoms, until they focused on diet and weight management as the central causative factor. So she opened Gut Theory Total Digestive Care to bridge the divide with medical innovations and the basics of food as medicine.
Dr. Laster enjoys the challenge of finding creative ways for patients to enjoy healthier meals while embracing the start of a new lifestyle. She provides comprehensive care from detailed and tailored nutrition education and plans along with consistent follow up for weight maintenance adding evidence-based solutions for success. Furthermore, she has expert knowledge of pharmacologic therapy for weight loss and minimally invasive endoscopic bariatric procedures, such as gastric balloons and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty as well. Dr. Laster’s goal is to help patients love their bodies by reaching their total health and wellness goals.
