Dr. Whitten is a board-certified ophthalmologist and Medical Director of Whitten Laser Eye. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his residency at the Washington National Eye Center. Dr. Whitten trains ophthalmology residents at Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center. For over 10 years, he has served as the Regional Medical Director at TLC Laser Eye Centers in Rockville, MD, Tysons Corner, VA, Reston, VA, Richmond, VA and Pittsburg, PA.
Dr. Mark Whitten has practiced ophthalmology in the Washington D.C. and Richmond, VA areas for more that 30 years. He is the pioneer of LASIK and refractive surgery, and is known both nationally and internationally for being at the forefront of the newest technology. Most recently, Dr. Whitten and his partner, Dr. Shilpa Rose were featured nationally on the Associated Press for their groundbreaking work with the Raindrop procedure.
In 2016, Dr. Whitten performed the first Raindrop Near Vision Inlay procedure in the area to correct reading vision. He is one of only three surgeons in the country to perform more than 150,000 laser vision correction procedures. By remaining at the forefront of technological advances, Dr. Whitten is able to achieve the very best vision results for his patients.
Dr. Whitten has a world-class reputation for excellence in eye care. He continues to train, teach and lecture at conferences with surgeons across the country about Raindrop Near Vision Inlay as well as advances in LASIK.
