Dr. Rose is a true D.C. native having been raised, educated and trained in the metropolitan area. She attended the prestigious Eleanor Roosevelt Science and Technology Program in Maryland with a special emphasis on the biologic sciences. She graduated from The George Washington University (GWU 1992) with honors: both summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
After college, Dr. Rose remained a Colonial. She was accepted to The Early Selection Program at the GWU Medical School where she also graduated with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha is the honors medical society).
Her internal medicine internship and Ophthalmology residency were also completed at GWU, where she served as Chief Resident during her senior year.
Most recently, Dr. Rose and her partner, Dr. Mark Whitten were featured nationally on the Associated Press for their groundbreaking work with the Raindrop procedure. Dr. Rose was also seen on the local news educating the Washington, D.C. area about the solar eclipse with special appearances on WUSA9, FOX5 and NBC4, and interviews on WTOP and WMZQ Radio. She writes a regular blog on vision care in American Bazaar Magazine.
In 2017, Dr. Rose was named a “Top Doctor” in Washingtonian Magazine.
Board Certified Ophthalmologist
Dr. Rose passed her board certification in 2000 and was recertified in 2010. Board certification requires consistent participation in continuing medical education and passing a rigorous examination after completing residency and every 10 years.
This process insures that doctors, such as Dr. Rose, remain current with the medical literature, the most recent treatments for disease and with technological advances in their specialty.
Vision Correction and Refractive Surgery
Shilpa Rose, M.D. has been part of the Washington, D.C. medical community since starting private practice in 2000. Her clinical interests include the medical treatment of eye diseases, contact lenses and pre-operative evaluations for patients considering refractive surgery (e.g. LASIK, laser vision correction, the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay) and cataract surgery.
She enjoys patient care and focuses on patient education and disease prevention. Insuring that her patients have appropriate expectations and understanding of their upcoming surgery is paramount to her.
