Accentuate the Positive

On May 21st go back in time to 1944. It was the year Bing Crosby took the Johnny Mercer tune, Accentuate the Positive, to the top of the charts. It later became known as one of the songs that got Americans through World War Two. You can hear it once again, along with other great tunes from the American Songbook, at the Kennedy Center on May 21st. Along with commentary, photographs, and footage, it’s a night of the unforgettable music that kept Americans company at home and abroad between the 1920s-1940s. NBC News Correspondent Pete Williams shares the stage with jazz greats including Carmen Bradford, Hilary Gardner, Byron Stripling, and Harry Allen for such songs as Pennies from Heaven, Look for the Silver Lining, Anything Goes, On the Sunny Side of the Street, It Had to be You, and As Time Goes By.
