Claudio Monteverdi: Vespers of 1610
November 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
$15 and up
At the turn of the 17th century, composer Claudio Monteverdi had mastered the musical styles of the late Renaissance and began developing new musical techniques which evolved into the Baroque musical style. In Vespro della Beata Vergine Monteverdi brilliantly superimposes new music over traditional Gregorian chants, combines sacred music with secular styles, and alternates the grandeur of the large ensemble with solos and duets. His mastery of the musical forms and styles of the time is showcased throughout the work and foreshadows the musical developments to come.
Join Artistic Director Scott Tucker, the Choral Arts Chorus, and special guests The Thirteen for an evening of musical splendor.
