District Shabbat: Judaism Returns to Southwest DC
November 16, 2018 at 5:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Free to $50
Combine DC’s high energy and the deep spirituality of Reform Judaism, and you get this all-ages Shabbat experience. There hasn’t been a regular synagogue presence in Southwest since 1995, and Washington Hebrew Congregation (WHC) is excited for the opportunities District Shabbat will bring to the Southwest community and its visitors. WHAT IS IT & WHO IS IT FOR? Led by WHC clergy and internationally celebrated folk-rock musicians Dan Nichols and Alan Goodis, District Shabbat is a Friday evening that builds community through joyful, musical worship, learning, food, and drinks. DO YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN? Come at 5:30 pm for our Tot Shabbat and Family Dinner. It’s a fun and engaging service that’s perfect for the little ones – and will get you on your feet too. And it’s followed by a complimentary family-friendly Shabbat dinner, so both tummies and hearts will be full at the end of your evening. COMING WITHOUT (OR WITH OLDER) KIDS? Come at 6:15 pm for a “Shot of Torah” and enjoy a spirited discussion with clergy fueled by soft drinks, adult beverages, and hors d’oeuvres. The high-energy, musical Shabbat service begins at 7:00 pm. DID SOMEONE SAY DINNER? Make it a night a dine with us! Two options follow the service: Community Shabbat Dinner, an amazing catered meal at St. Augustine’s; and The Rabbi’s Table, a limited-seating dinner with one of WHC’s rabbis at a Waterfront restaurant. RSVP! Whether you are coming for Tot Shabbat, the 7:00 pm service, or dinner, we ask you to register at whctemple.org/DistrictShabbat so we can provide you with an extraordinarily soulful, musical, and joyful Shabbat experience.
