The event is free; registration is requested.
KIDS GET FREE CHANCE TO EXPLORE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, UNDERSTAND GENETICS AND UNDERSTAND WHY IT ALL MATTERS
The National Academy of Sciences (NAS), a private, nonprofit that provides objective, science-based advice on critical issues affecting the nation, will offer a unique and fun opportunity for young people (ages 3 and up) and their families to better understand how can use science, engineering and medicine to help make good decisions every day. The Institute for Genomic Biology will also participate in this Family Science Day on Saturday, April 13, bringing its World of Genomics to D.C. for the first time ever, which includes hands-on learning with state-of-the-art microscopy, robotics, activities and artifacts. A highlight of NAS Family Science
Day will be the interactive DecisionTown. Each stop in the town, more than 17 in all, will offer a different activity centered on an issue or question facing DecisionTown as it plans for the future.
Attendees will be able to participate in creative and engaging hands-on activities including:
– Medical center focused on DNA sequencing and personalized health
– Courtroom that test participants’ ability to be accurate eyewitnesses
– Patent Office to make and register inventions
– Educational and entertaining laser light show featuring great scientific achievements
Participants who complete several activities will become a DecisionTown Citizen at the Town Hall and receive a giveaway to commemorate their achievement.
