Hong Kong Film Festival
July 20, 2018 at 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Made in Hong Kong Film Festival: Paradox.
Though set mostly in Thailand (and featuring an appearance by Thai martial arts star Tony Jaa), Paradox is a Hong Kong prestige production through and through. Louis Koo plays a widower battling his way through the Thai underworld to find his kidnapped daughter. His ferocious fight scenes take full advantage of the film’s seedy seaside locale. Directed by Wilson Yip director of the popular Ip Man series, Paradox boasts award-winning fight choreography by Sammo Hung and an impressive star turn by Koo, who won best actor prizes at both the Asian Film Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards. (Dir.: Wilson Yip, Hong Kong/China, 2017, 99 min., DCP, Cantonese, English, and Thai with Chinese and English subtitles)
