White recently described his new album, Boarding House Reach, as “good gardening music or roofing music, or, you know, back-alley stabbing music.” It’s certainly good seeing-him-in-concert music: Featuring a big, funky band with touches of gospel, hip-hop, and jazz, his third solo album should provide the foundation for some wall-rattling shows.
